OCCASION OF HER DEATH ON APRIL 30, 1997.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF ROSA LEE
LUCKEY OF LEE COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER
DEATH ON APRIL 30, 1997.
Whereas, Rosa Lee Luckey of Lee County died on April 30, 1997;
and
Whereas, she was born January 1, 1921, the eldest daughter of the
late Henry W. and Ethel J. Isaac, Sr., attended the public schools of
Hamlet, North Carolina, and received the B.A. degree from Allen
University and the Masters of Education from Columbia University
in New York; and
Whereas, Mrs. Luckey, the wife of James Luckey of Bishopville and
mother of Gloria T. Byrd of Decatur, Georgia, taught and nurtured
the first-graders of Hartsville for thirty-nine years; and
Whereas, she was as committed to her church and her community as
she was to the education of the generations of first-graders she
touched; and
Whereas, she was active in her church as a director of the local and
area Young People's Department, a Sunday School teacher, a class
leader, and in various offices of the Missionary Society and various
levels of the Lay Organization; and
Whereas, she was active in her community as a member of the Lee
County Board of Education, precinct poll manager, treasurer of the
Lee County Disability and Special Needs Foundation, assistant
secretary of the National Council of Negro Women, and as a member
of the Lee County Arts Council and Historical Society, the Lee
County NAACP, Camellia Garden Club, the Alpha Pi Chi Sorority,
and the National Education Association; and
Whereas, she will be sorely missed by her family and her friends, as
well as her church, community, and the numerous children she
touched. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express their deepest
sympathy to the family and friends of Rosa Lee Luckey of Lee
County on the occasion of her death on April 30, 1997.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. James Luckey.
