H*4305 Concurrent Resolution, By Bowers
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE TOWN OF BRUNSON IN HAMPTON COUNTY
ON THE OCCASION OF ITS ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY.

06/05/97 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-10
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE TOWN OF BRUNSON IN HAMPTON
COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF ITS ONE HUNDRED
TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY.
Whereas, on November 7, 1872, a post office was established in the
community named for William E. Brunson, Sr., who donated the site,
and the Town of Brunson was born; the town hall and the railroad
depot, which was built about 1887, both moved to new locations in
1959; Brunson's school system traces its origin to the 1800's, to
Pineville Academy and Brunson Graded and Military School; and
Whereas, Confederate crosses on graves in the Brunson cemetery are
indicative of the many young men who fought in the War Between
the States; in early 1865, one of General William T. Sherman's
Union Army outfits camped overnight at nearby Oakgrove on the
General's famous march through Georgia and the Carolinas; and
Whereas, many of the streets of Brunson are named for families such
as Addison, Manker, Matthews, Folk, Hanna, Lightsey, Preacher,
Nix, Brabham, Floyd, Harter, Cone, Brunson, Baggett, Williams,
Harvey, Early, Adams, and Roberts, reflecting the role these families
have played in the history of this part of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Brunson is one of the friendliest and nicest towns in the
Lowcountry and we are pleased to have this opportunity to
congratulate the town and its good citizens on the occasion of the
town's one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, congratulates the Town of Brunson in Hampton County
on the occasion of its one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the Mayor and Town Council of Brunson.
