RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE MR. WILLIAM KING "B. K." BRYAN OF
GREENVILLE, A DISTINGUISHED SOUTH CAROLINA
BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADER, FOR HIS WORK IN
BUILDING GENERAL WHOLESALE DISTRIBUTORS OF
GREENVILLE INTO ONE OF THIS STATE'S FINEST AND
MOST SUCCESSFUL COMPANIES.
Whereas, Mr. William King "B. K." Bryan is one of South Carolina's
most distinguished business and civic leaders; and
Whereas, he was born in New Bern, North Carolina, served as a
bomber pilot during World War II in the European Theatre, and
moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1946, where he became a
successful and respected business executive as the owner and
chairman of General Wholesale Distributors; and
Whereas, from 1950 until 1996 when he retired from active service,
he and his team built General Wholesale Distributors into one of this
State's finest and most successful companies; and
Whereas, in addition to his extremely successful business career, he
also found time to serve his community and State in many other
capacities, including being a board member of the Enterprise Bank in
Jacksonville, Florida, Elder of the Westminster Presbyterian Church,
Chairman of the Board of the Greenville Memorial Hospital,
President of the Greenville Country Club, and a key member of the
South Carolina Chamber of Commerce; and
Whereas, "B. K." Bryan is known as a person of utmost character,
integrity, and generosity. In 1997 he donated a one million dollar
trust to the Greenville Hospital System Foundation to further health
care and research in the Greenville community, which was the largest
gift in the foundation's sixteen-year history; and
Whereas, South Carolina has been blessed through the years with
special people such as B. K. Bryan who have given freely of their
considerable time, talents, and resources to their communities, State,
and nation; and
Whereas, it is with a tremendous sense of appreciation that the
General Assembly takes note of his accomplishments throughout his
business career as the owner and chairman of General Wholesale
Distributors and wishes him and his lovely wife Frances godspeed in
their every endeavor in their retirement years. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate Mr.
William King "B. K." Bryan of Greenville, a distinguished South
Carolina business and civic leader, for his work in building General
Wholesale Distributors of Greenville into one of this State's finest
and most successful companies.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. William King "B. K." Bryan of Greenville.
