RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING SORROW AT THE DEATH OF THE
HONORABLE LESLIE EARL PACK, SUMTER COUNTY
MAGISTRATE, AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO
HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the Honorable Leslie Earl Pack, Sumter County Magistrate
and lifelong resident of the Sumter area, died February 18, 1998; and
Whereas, Mr. Pack was born June 7, 1931, in Sumter to the late Carl
Benjamin Pack and Theresa Hodge Pack and was one of eight
children; and
Whereas, he graduated from Edmunds High School and attended
Clevenger Business College, The University of Detroit, and Central
Carolina Technical College and also was certified by the South
Carolina Supreme Court as having attended the School for
Magistrates; and
Whereas, Mr. Pack had served as a Sumter County magistrate for two
years at the time of his death. His keen ability to balance justice and
compassion quickly earned him the respect and admiration of his
fellow magistrates and of those who appeared before him; and
Whereas, prior to his appointment as a magistrate, he was in
automotive sales with McLaughlin Ford in Sumter for over a decade
and a half, where his fair dealings, concern for others, and outgoing
personality resulted in a very successful career and earned him the
friendship of his many, many customers; and
Whereas, Mr. Pack was an active member of many civic
organizations, among them the Omar Shrine Temple, the Sumter
Lions Club, and the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce; and
Whereas, his public service also included serving on the Board of
Trustees for Sumter School District 2 and in addition he was a
faithful member of First Baptist Church where he had served as a
deacon; and
Whereas, Mr. Pack was a devoted husband and father and is survived
by his wife, Carolyn Rowland Pack, a son, daughter, stepdaughter,
and four grandchildren; and
Whereas, the Honorable Leslie Earl Pack was an outstanding
individual and a distinguished gentleman known for his love of life
and of his fellow man. He was held in high esteem and greatly loved
by all who knew him, and he will be truly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That, by this resolution, the Members of the South Carolina General
Assembly express sorrow at the death of the Honorable Leslie Earl
Pack, Sumter County Magistrate, and extend deepest sympathy to his
family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mrs. Leslie Earl Pack.
