A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND BISHOP C. L. LORICK, SR., OF REHOBOTH
UNITED CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST, IN COLUMBIA, FOR HIS
MANY YEARS OF UNSELFISH AND DEDICATED
LEADERSHIP OF THIS OUTSTANDING CHURCH, AND TO
EXTEND TO HIM BEST WISHES ON THE OCCASION OF HIS
SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY.
Whereas, Bishop C. L. Lorick, Sr., was born on May 5, 1928, in
Lexington County, South Carolina, attended the Orangeburg County
public schools, graduated from North Industrial Institute, and after
graduation, served in the United States Army; and
Whereas, C. L. Lorick has faithfully served his church since 1951, as
Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, and Youth
President, answered the call to the preaching ministry in 1962, was
ordained in May of 1965, and was consecrated to the office of Bishop
in 1979; and
Whereas, Bishop Lorick is the pastor of Rehoboth United Church of
Jesus Christ in Columbia, having been called in 1964, and installed
in June of 1965, as pastor to the early mission that became an affiliate
of the United Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic) in 1966, and
developed into the present church with its citywide reputation for its
outstanding music program, genuine spirituality, and overall
excellence; and
Whereas, under his leadership the congregation of the small mission
on Bluff Road grew in size and faithful members, property for a
larger sanctuary was acquired on Cushman Drive, the old military
barracks that served as a temporary sanctuary gave way to the present
sanctuary and fellowship hall, and plans for relocation of this
growing church to a new site on Beltline Boulevard are well
underway; and
Whereas, in addition to his ministry at Rehoboth United Church of
Jesus Christ, Bishop Lorick became active in community and civic
affairs, serving on boards and working with organizations such as
The Black Adoption Agency, The Columbia Ministerial Alliance,
Hospital Pastoral Counselor, The Child Fatality Committee, the
Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, One Church, One Child,
The Billy Graham Crusade Committee, The North Columbia Civic
Club, and The Greenview Community Civic Club; and
Whereas, Rehoboth United Church of Jesus Christ is an integral part
of the Columbia community. It is not only manifested itself as a
cordial, friendly, and sacred place of worship, but it has served as an
outstanding influence in evangelizing the citizens and residents of
surrounding communities in which it operates. It is concerned with
the spiritual, social, political, and economic welfare of the people,
both within and outside of the realm of its own membership, and
includes outreach programs under Bishop Lorick's pastorate such as
the Youth Intervention Program and Prison Ministry; and
Whereas, one key ingredient of Bishop Lorick's success as a pastor
and minister is his lovely and devoted wife, partner, and confidante
of fifty-one years, Mrs. Elease Porterfield Lorick, to whom he was
united in marriage in 1946. Their marriage has been blessed with
nine children, one "special daughter", seventeen
grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this
resolution, would like to wish Bishop Lorick a very happy birthday
and would also like to publicly recognize and thank this gifted man
of God for his unselfish and dedicated ministry to this fine church
and to the many members and friends of the congregation. Now
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives hereby commend
Bishop C. L. Lorick, Sr., pastor of Rehoboth United Church of Jesus
Christ, in Columbia, for his many years of unselfish and dedicated

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Bishop Lorick.
