RESOLUTION
TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH
CAROLINA TO SENIOR RAYMOND PRIESTER, STUDENT
AND OUTSTANDING FOOTBALL PLAYER, OF CLEMSON
UNIVERSITY ON HIS EXCEPTIONAL CAREER AND
CONTRIBUTIONS AS TAILBACK FOR THE
"TIGERS" FOOTBALL TEAM.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are saddened to
learn that senior Raymond Priester of Allendale County has played
his last season in football for Clemson University; and
Whereas, Raymond Priester was born in Allendale on February 3,
1975, and is the oldest of ten children; and
Whereas, Raymond played high school football at Allendale-Fairfax
for Mike Doolittle, a Clemson graduate. During his high school
years, he was selected AA all-state team, AA Back-of-the Year by
The State, team co-captain, selected to the Region VI all-region team,
to CSRA all-area team four years in a row, honorable mention
all-state team member as a sophomore and a junior, gained 1,023
yards as a freshman and was named his team's offensive Most
Valuable Player, and 1992-93 Athlete-of-the-Year at
Allendale-Fairfax High; and
Whereas, Raymond Priester began his illustrious football career in
1993 at Clemson University and is the only two-time winner of the
Clemson Take No Prisoners Award in 1995. This award is given for
the "greatest warrior" effort in a Clemson victory; and
Whereas, while at Clemson, Raymond Priester has consistently
received numerous honors including: First-team All-ACC as a senior;
second team all-conference as a sophomore and junior; honorable
mention All-American by the Football News; nominee for the Doak
Walker Award; in 1994, Raymond was ranked as the top sophomore
fullback in the nation by the 1995 Sporting News preseason
magazine; ranked as ninth best fullback in the nation overall; and was
moved to tailback in the first couple of weeks of fall practice; and
Whereas, Raymond holds eighteen Clemson records altogether
including: only active player in 1997 who held his school's rushing
record on a game, season, and career basis -- still holds all three of
those records; Clemson's all-time leader in all-purpose yards with
over 4282; Clemson's only 4000-yard all-purpose runner; first
running back in Clemson history to be named first or second-team
All-ACC for three years; tied Clemson record for receptions by a
running back; and only back in Clemson history to rank in top 40 in
the nation in rushing for three straight years; and
Whereas, Raymond Priester has exhibited dedication, unity, hard
work, and superb talent during his tenure on the "Tigers"
Football Team and is highly deserving of recognition for his
accomplishments; and
Whereas, this exceptional young man is regarded as a leader of the
"Tigers" Football Team and his contributions have
earned him the justifiable affection and respect of all those with
whom he has come in contact; and
Whereas, Raymond Priester is well known in his hometown of
Allendale -- he was Grand Marshal of Allendale's Spring Festival
Parade and commencement speaker at his high school's graduation;
and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, as well as the
citizens of South Carolina are proud of the role Raymond Priester has
played in raising the profile of Clemson University in football. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, offer their congratulations to senior
Raymond Priester, student and outstanding football player, of
Clemson University on his exceptional career and contributions as
Tailback for the "Tigers" Football Team.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Raymond Priester.
