 MAGISTRATE FOR ORANGEBURG COUNTY.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FROM THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO FOYE JONES COVINGTON ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS MAGISTRATE FOR ORANGEBURG COUNTY.

Whereas, the Honorable Foye Jones Covington retired as Magistrate of Orangeburg County after eighteen years; and

Whereas, Judge Covington was born in Gresham, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones. She graduated from Briton's Neck School and attended Columbia College; and

Whereas, Judge Covington is married to Thomas A. Covington and they are the proud parents of Tommy, Jr., Cindy, Gregg and Jimmy, and especially proud grandparents of four grandchildren (two more expected); and

Whereas, Judge Covington is an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church of Norway where she serves as a member of St. John's United Methodist Women and the Choir, Chairperson of the Worship Committee, former Sunday School teacher of the adult class, former Sunday School teacher of the junior-high class, former member of the Evangelistic Committee, former member of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, former president of the United Methodist Women, Delegate to General Conference in 1984, member of the Board of Missions for ten years, and Delegate to South Carolina Conference; and

Whereas, Judge Covington is active in numerous civic organizations such as the Salkehatchie Summer Service mission projects, counselor for Norway Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous, and as a member of the Edisto Book Club; and

Whereas, Judge Covington was a hard working magistrate who will be remembered for her fairness, compassion, and her vision; and

Whereas, it is only fitting and proper that the members of the General Assembly pause in their deliberations to note the retirement of so great a daughter of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly extend their deepest gratitude and best wishes to Judge Foye Jones Covington on the occasion of her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Judge Foye Jones Covington.
