A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO HONOR AND COMMEND REVEREND DR. THOMAS MARCUS DIXON ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE TO HIS CHURCH AND HIS COMMUNITY
Whereas, Reverend Dr. Thomas Marcus Dixon was born in Kershaw County in 1916 and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Hartsville; and
Whereas, Dr. Dixon is married to Isabel Reuben and is the father of four children: Barbara Jean Dixon, Thomasina Dixon, Rudolph Marcus Dixon, and Mildred Deloris Dixon; and
Whereas, Dr. Dixon served as a school principal in Jasper County and Hampton County and as a school board member; and
Whereas, Dr. Dixon has served in countless offices in the Baptist church and has been often recognized for his many contributions to the church and schools through plaques and awards recognizing his dedication to the church and community, including an elementary school building bearing his name; and
Whereas, Dr. Dixon served thirty-three years as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church and is now pastor of St. Mary Baptist Church in Ridgeland; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to recognize and thank Dr. Dixon for his more than fifty years of tireless work on behalf of church, family, and community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby honor and commend Reverend Dr. Thomas Marcus Dixon for his decades of service as a minister and an educator in South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Dr. Thomas Marcus Dixon.
