 LEVERETTE AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF BOBBY JOE LEVERETTE AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Bobby Joe Leverette, husband of Ruby Leverette of Columbia, on Sunday, November 29, 1998, at the age of sixty-seven; and

Whereas, he was born in Anderson County, the son of the late Almond Oliver Leverette and Della Cleveland Leverette and the beloved brother of four sisters, Geneva Allen and Pat Ozmint of Anderson, Doris Ramsey of Toccoa, Georgia, and Sue Scott of Bennettsville, and one brother, Al Leverette of Rock Hill; and

Whereas, Bobby Joe was the loving husband of Ruby; the devoted father of his children, Stephen F. Leverette of Greenville and Kim Leverette of Spartanburg; and the proud grandfather of Peyton William and Mary Hammond; and

Whereas, Ruby Leverette, Bobby Joe's devoted wife, is a well respected staff member who has been employed by the South Carolina House of Representatives since 1981 and who, as the supervisor of the Word Processing Center, has worked closely with each of us and been our friend; and

Whereas, Bobby Joe ably and patriotically served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army; and

Whereas, Bobby Joe had a long and distinguished career in state government as he worked for two commissioners of the Department of Corrections, Commissioner Ellis MacDougall and Commissioner William Leeke; and

Whereas, he served as a deputy warden and warden at correctional institutions which needed his strong, yet compassionate leadership style and where he was able, because of his personality and ability to get along with all employees, to develop a strong team approach for successfully running these institutions; and

Whereas, in other correctional facilities, he instituted innovative drug treatment and other educational and vocational programs for the prisoners; and

Whereas, Bobby Joe loved his family and his home deeply, and people knew him as a genuinely kind human being whose religion was very important to him; and

Whereas, unfortunately Bobby Joe retired at a young age because of declining health and was lovingly cared for by his wife, Ruby, his children and his friends; and

Whereas, Bobby Joe's friendship, leadership, intelligence, and love of life will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Bobby Joe Leverette and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bobby Joe Leverette
