A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND EXTEND SINCERE BEST WISHES TO MRS. GERTRUDE BROCK ON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are very pleased to learn that Mrs. Gertrude Brock of Greenville, celebrated her 100th birthday December 28, 1998; and

Whereas, she was born in Greenville County to Emma and Albert Harrison, the second of eleven children and the first daughter whom everyone wanted to name, so they did - giving her the name Gertrude Marie Tecora Metila Febbie Ann Mary; and

Whereas, she began school at age six in a one-room schoolhouse; at the age of fourteen she took on the responsibilities of work and alternately attended school one week and worked, cooking and caring for children, one week; and

Whereas, Mrs. Brock and her husband, W. C. Brock were married in 1921 and were blessed with a large and loving family of six daughters, four sons, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and

Whereas, Mrs. Brock has been a very active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church since joining in 1921; she serves as a Deaconess and Mother of the church; she taught Sunday school for many years and has been an advisor for the junior missionary; and

Whereas, Mrs. Brock has also made many contributions to her community over her long and very full life; she is a member of Holly Spring Chapter No. 31, Order of Eastern Star, and previously served as treasurer for District No. 1, Grand Chapter; she was a certified member of the South Carolina Extension Homemaker Council; and has been recognized on many occasions for her fine domestic skills, earning a blue ribbon at the county fair, a community yard improvement award, and many other awards. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Gertrude Harrison Brock on the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her their very best wishes.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Brock.
