 JAMES RICHARD "DICK" WATERS OF BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF MR. JAMES RICHARD "DICK" WATERS OF BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were saddened to learn of the death of James Richard "Dick" Waters of Beaufort County on Wednesday, December 2, 1998, at the age of seventy-three; and

Whereas, born on December 18, 1924 in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of Joseph Waters and Bessie Byrd Waters; and

Whereas, Dick Waters served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War as an aviation ordinanceman 2nd class; and

Whereas, he received his civil engineering degree in 1956 from Clemson University; and

Whereas, Dick Waters was the loving husband of Frances Trimble Waters of Beaufort and a devoted father to two daughters: Lynn Waters Schooler of Columbia and Karen Waters Sullivan of Lexington; and

Whereas, he retired from International Paper Company in 1984 after serving in various engineering and management positions throughout the South; and

Whereas, Dick Waters was a staunch and active Republican; a member of the National Federation of Republican Men; past President of the Beaufort Area Republican Club; and served as treasurer for the Edie Rodgers Campaign through four general elections and one primary; and

Whereas, he was a lay delegate to the annual conference for Carteret Street United Methodist Church and served on the finance committee and administrative boards of the church; a member of the board of the Salvation Army; and on the budget committee of the United Way; and

Whereas, James Richard "Dick" Waters' death represents a tremendous loss to Beaufort County, and we want his family and many friends to know that they are uppermost in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Mr. James Richard "Dick" Waters of Beaufort, South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Frances Trimble Waters.
