 CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE THOMAS ALTON
 GIBBONS, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE THOMAS ALTON GIBBONS, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of The Honorable Thomas Alton Gibbons of Turbeville, who died at age 85 on September 7, 1999; and

Whereas, "Mr. Alton", as he was affectionately known and referred to by his many friends, was born in Clarendon County on October 18, 1913, the son of the late William Stull Gibbons and Kizzie Robinson Gibbons; and

Whereas, a successful businessman and active in his community and church, "Mr. Alton" was the founder of Gibbons Furniture and Appliance Company of Turbeville; and

Whereas, well known for his concern and compassion for his fellow man, and respected for his fairness, "Mr. Alton" served with distinction as a magistrate for Clarendon County for thirty-five years; and

Whereas, "Mr. Alton" is survived by his wife, Evelyn Haselden Gibbons of Turbeville and four children: Wayne Gibbons of Turbeville, Glenn Gibbons of Mt. Pleasant, Carolyn Coker Pearce of Florence, and Judy Gibbons McNair of Columbia; two sisters: Anita Ardis of Summerton and Foye Furtick Smith of Columbia; and ten grandchildren. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House Of Representatives, by this resolution, express the profound sorrow of the House of Representatives upon the death of The Honorable Thomas Alton Gibbons, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Haselden Gibbons, of Turbeville.
