 LEADERSHIP AND MANY YEARS OF INVALUABLE PUBLIC SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE
 SOUTH CAROLINA FORESTRY COMMISSION, AND TO WISH HIM AND HIS FAMILY MANY YEARS
 OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH
 CAROLINA FORESTRY COMMISSION.

TO COMMEND GEORGE E. CALLAWAY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND MANY YEARS OF INVALUABLE PUBLIC SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA FORESTRY COMMISSION, AND TO WISH HIM AND HIS FAMILY MANY YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA FORESTRY COMMISSION.

Whereas, George E. Callaway of Manning was born on May 19, 1931, in Tallahassee, Florida, attended the University of Florida where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, and served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955; and

Whereas, for many years George E. Callaway worked in the pulpwood and timber business as a forester, and was employed by recognized timber industry leaders, in the Floyd and Mercy, Inc., Westvaco, and Callaway Timber, Inc., until he was retired from Callaway Timber, Inc.; and

Whereas, George E. Callaway was appointed by Governor Carroll A. Campbell to serve two six-year terms as a member of the South Carolina Forestry Commission, and served as a Forestry Commissioner from July 1, 1998, to June 30, 1994, and from July 1, 1994 to June 30, 2000; and

Whereas, George E. Callaway ably served on the Forestry Commission's Long Range Planning Committee, Lands Replacement Committee, and Policy Review Committee; and he also served as Chairman of the Policy Review Committee from 1991 to the present; and

Whereas, George E. Callaway provided invaluable leadership as a Forestry Commissioner and was instrumental in the internal restructuring of the South Carolina Forestry Commission and in developing the agency's strategic plan, and was elected Vice Chairman of the Commission, to serve from January 1999 to January 2001; and

Whereas, active in civic organizations, George E. Callaway's prime interest is the Clarendon County Soil Conservation District; he is a member and past President of the Manning Lions Club; he is a member and past Commander of American Legion Post No. 63 in Manning; he is a member of the South Carolina Forestry Association, the South Carolina Pulpwood Dealers Association, and has served as a member of the Advisory Council of United States Small Business Administration; and

Whereas, George E. Callaway is married to Edith M. Callaway, and they have four daughters and seven grandchildren; his hobbies are hunting, fishing, and the grandchildren; and they are members of the First Baptist Church of Manning. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend George E. Callaway for his outstanding leadership and many years of invaluable public service as a member of the South Carolina Forestry Commission, and to wish him and his family many years of health and happiness on the occasion of his retirement from the South Carolina Forestry Commission.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. George E. Callaway of Manning.
