FELLOWMEN ON THE OCCASION OF THE FIRST MOTHER'S DAY OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND MRS. JANIE GLADDEN JENKINS OF COLUMBIA FOR HER FAITHFUL AND DEVOTED SERVICE TO NEW EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH, HER FAMILY AND FELLOWMEN ON THE OCCASION OF THE FIRST MOTHER'S DAY OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM.
Whereas, Mrs. Janie Gladden Jenkins of Columbia is a person who has devoted her life to the service of the Lord, her family, and her community; and
Whereas, she was born on December 31, 1918, in the Town of Swansea, the daughter of the late Elliot and Bertha Surgant Gladden; and
Whereas, Mrs. Jenkins is the widow of the late Woodrow Jenkins, whom she married in 1940 and that union was blessed with two sons, one who is deceased, and one daughter; and
Whereas, she is the doting grandparent of seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and
Whereas, Mrs. Jenkins was educated in the Lexington County School District; and
Whereas, she retired from the Capital City Manufacturing Company in 1974 as a seamstress, and enjoys sewing and baking "sweet bread"; and
Whereas, Mrs. Jenkins is a devoted member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church where she serves on the Deaconess Ministry, and is the former President of the "Ruth Circle" of the Ministry; and
Whereas, she is active in the Standish Acres Community Organization; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, are desirous of publicly recognizing and commending Mrs. Jenkins for her lifetime of service as a Christian woman and mother of high moral character and faith. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, do hereby commend Mrs. Janie Gladden Jenkins of Columbia for her faithful service to New Ebenezer Baptist Church, her family, and fellowmen on the occasion of the first Mother's Day of the New Millennium.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Jenkins.
