 SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MR. BERNARD H. KLINE OF
 COLUMBIA AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

EXPRESSING THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MR. BERNARD H. KLINE OF COLUMBIA AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Bernard H. Kline of Columbia, age 83, who died on Sunday, April 2, 2000; and

Whereas, Mr. Kline was born in Frostburg, Maryland, the son of the late Philip and Lena Goldsmith Kline; and

Whereas, Mr. Kline was the former Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Kline Iron and Steel Corporation, Inc. He was also the President of South Carolina Steel Fabricating Company, which fabricated super structures for two hundred twenty-five LST vessels during World War II. He received the Army/Navy "E" Award for excellence during the war. He was President of RJ Lock Steel Products Corporation in Charlotte; and

Whereas, Mr. Kline was a member of the Navy League and a former member of South Carolina Ports Authority. He was one of three South Carolinians invited by the Secretary of the Navy Gates to attend Naval exercises in European waters; and

Whereas, Mr. Kline was an American Board Member of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and National Member of the Board of Directors and State Chairman of United Jewish Appeal. He was also a board member of the Federation of the Blind and Crippled Children's Society. He was State Chairman of the Radio Free Europe and a guest of the Ford Foundation to visit Radio Free Europe facilities; and

Whereas, Mr. Kline was also an Advisory Board Member of South Carolina National Bank, a board member of Columbia Chamber of Commerce, a Mason, a Shriner, Rotarian, a member of The Boy Scouts of American Council, and a member of the Palmetto and Summit Clubs; and

Whereas, Mr. Kline was a member of Beth Shalom Synagogue and associate life member of Hadassah; he and his wife, Sarah, created a family of love, closeness, and forgiveness and, in the words of those who knew and loved him, "We will miss him dearly, but will always carry him in our hearts."; and

Whereas, in addition to his wife, Sarah, whom he loved and adored for sixty years, Mr. Kline is survived by children, Jerry Kline, Susan Neider, Cheryl Love, Peggy Jacobs, and Cathy Kline; daughter-in-law, Sue Kline; sons-in-law, Shelly Neider and David Jacobs; grandchildren, David and Carol Neider, Sharon Neider, Donna and John Wright, Jay, Amy, and David Kline, Katy and Jesica Love, Kari and Kim Jacobs; and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Elizabeth, and Harrison Wright, Dustin Neider and Levi Strauss. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. Bernard H. Kline of Columbia and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Bernard H. Kline.
