 OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC AND TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
 FOR MR. BRYSON'S AGREEING TO PERFORM AT THE ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE BLACK CAUCUS
 GALA TO BE HELD AT THE KOGER CENTER IN COLUMBIA ON JUNE 16, 2001.

TO COMMEND MR. ROBERT PEABO BRYSON OF GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR HIS EXCEPTIONAL TALENTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE FIELD OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC AND TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR MR. BRYSON'S AGREEING TO PERFORM AT THE ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE BLACK CAUCUS GALA TO BE HELD AT THE KOGER CENTER IN COLUMBIA ON JUNE 16, 2001.

Whereas, Mr. Robert Peabo Bryson was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on April 13, 1951, and has since become one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary music with twenty-five years of music making and almost twenty albums to his credit; and

Whereas, Peabo Bryson was exposed to music at an early age, and as a teenager he displayed his talents with local bands on the famed "chitlin" circuit where he developed his skills as an entertainer; and

Whereas, Peabo Bryson enjoyed early success on the Rhythm and Blues (R&B) charts with songs such as "I Can Make it Better" and "Underground Music", and after signing with Capitol Records in 1977, he gained national recognition when the title track to his Capitol debut gold album reached the Top 10 of the R&B charts; and

Whereas, Mr. Peabo Bryson quickly became one of the most popular performers during his national tour in the late 1970's and early 1980's; in his first six years with Capitol Records, Peabo recorded hit duets with Natalie Cole and Robert Flack, with whom he achieved great success through the pop music hit "Tonight I Celebrate My Love"; and

Whereas, Peabo Bryson signed with Elektra Records in 1984 and had an instant Top 10 pop and R&B hit with the song "If Ever You're In My Arms Again"; in 1989, Peabo returned to the Capitol Records label and achieved his first R&B chart-topper with "Show and Tell" from his Top 10 R&B album "All My Love"; and

Whereas, Mr. Peabo Bryson attained the heights in his profession in 1991, when his duet with Celine Dion, the theme song from the popular Disney film "Beauty and the Beast", won the Grammy for "Best Vocal by a Duo or Group" and an Oscar for "Best Song". Peabo equaled that success in 1992, when he and Regina Belle recorded the theme song to Disney's hit film "Aladdin". Mr. Bryson has also toured with the Tony Award winning production of "Raisin"; and

Whereas, Peabo Bryson has become a legendary vocalist throughout the world, known for his moving lyrics and effortless voice; he has achieved remarkable success in many areas of contemporary music, and the General Assembly takes great pride in recognizing Peabo Bryson as one of the Palmetto State's favorite sons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Mr. Robert Peabo Bryson of Greenville, South Carolina, for his exceptional talents and accomplishments in the field of contemporary music and express the appreciation of the General Assembly for Mr. Bryson's agreeing to perform at the Annual Legislative Black Caucus Gala to be held at the Koger Center in Columbia on June 16, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Robert Peabo Bryson of Greenville, South Carolina.
