 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN J.
 L. "HOSS" JOHNSON OF MURRELLS INLET THIS PAST SUMMER, AND EXTEND DEEPEST
 SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN J. L. "HOSS" JOHNSON OF MURRELLS INLET THIS PAST SUMMER, AND EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened by the death of fisherman and Captain J. L. "Hoss" Johnson of Murrells Inlet, who died this past summer, at the age of fifty-eight; and

Whereas, "Hoss" Johnson was born in Murrells Inlet to the late James B. and Jessie "Byo" Johnson. He had lived in Murrells Inlet most of his life and had become part of the fishing culture of the South Carolina Coast over the years, taking groups out on chartered fishing trips as well as fishing for pleasure on his vacations; and

Whereas, "Hoss" Johnson had been working on boats out of Murrells Inlet since he was fourteen years old. He became the captain of the original Inlet Princess at the age of twenty-seven, and when the old boat was replaced with the New Inlet Princess, he skippered that one until he was forced to retire for health reasons; and

Whereas, "Hoss" Johnson will be greatly missed but not forgotten by the many people whose lives he touched. He was a founding member of the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Rescue Squad and the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Departments and a member of Murrells Inlet Masonic Lodge Post 368 and Berlin United Methodist Church; and

Whereas, the General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family of J. L. "Hoss" Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Jo Dell Hughes Johnson; a daughter, Diana Marie Johnson, and grandson, Matthew Legette Saults of Murrells Inlet; sisters, Mary Hughes and Edna Strickland, both of Murrells Inlet; brothers, William Brown of Georgetown and Francis "Pee Wee" Brown of Murrells Inlet; and several special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Captain J. L. "Hoss" Johnson of Murrells Inlet this past summer, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jo Dell Hughes Johnson of Murrells Inlet.
