 TWENTY YEARS OF FAITHFUL AND DEVOTED SERVICE TO THE CHURCH AND ITS MEMBERS.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND REVEREND SILAS MIMS, PASTOR OF GREATER HOPEWELL BAPTIST CHURCH IN THE TOWN OF DUNCAN, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR TWENTY YEARS OF FAITHFUL AND DEVOTED SERVICE TO THE CHURCH AND ITS MEMBERS.

Whereas, Reverend Silas Mims was born in 1935, is married to Mrs. Dorothy Sherman Mims, and together they are the proud parents of five children and the doting grandparents of two grandchildren; and

Whereas, he was educated in the Greenville County Public Schools, and has received pastoral training from the American Baptist Seminary, Benedict College, Furman University, Morris College, and the National Baptist Sunday School and Training Union Congress of the National Baptist Publishing Board; and

Whereas, he was licensed as a minister in 1963 and ordained in 1966; and

Whereas, Reverend Mims has received numerous awards and commendations which include being named the "1992 Minister of the Year" by the Greenville County Baptist Ministerial Alliance, and being presented the "1992 Outstanding Leadership in Christian Education Award" by the Spartanburg County Baptist Congress of Christian Education; and

Whereas, he has served as Vice Moderator of the Spartanburg County Baptist Association since 1985, served as President of the Greenville County Baptist Ministerial Alliance from 1993 to 1994, and Vice President from 1991 to 1992, and is a lifelong member of the NAACP; and

Whereas, Reverend Mims pastored: New Salem Baptist Church in Tigerville, South Carolina, from 1964 to 1965; Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Central, South Carolina, from 1965 to 1981; and has served as pastor of the Greater Hopewell Baptist Church in Duncan, South Carolina, since 1981; and

Whereas, during his twenty years of service at Greater Hopewell Baptist Church, ten ministers have been licensed, three deacons have been ordained, five trustees have been installed, and a number of new ministries have been established; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this outstanding man of God as he marks his twentieth anniversary with this wonderful church and extend to him and his parishioners best wishes for a long and continued pastoral relationship which will remain focused on God and His mission for our world. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina recognize and commend Reverend Silas Mims, Pastor of Greater Hopewell Baptist Church in Duncan, South Carolina, for twenty years of faithful and devoted service to the church and its members.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Silas Mims.
