 A HOUSE RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
 THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AT THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF LEWIS HEYWARD FORT OF
 SUMTER ON MAY 14, 2001, AND EXTENDING ITS SINCERE SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND
 FRIENDS.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AT THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF LEWIS HEYWARD FORT OF SUMTER ON MAY 14, 2001, AND EXTENDING ITS SINCERE SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Whereas, Lewis Heyward Fort, 58, of Sumter died May 14, 2001; and

Whereas, the former Clemson University student and Numeral Society Alumnus was born July 1, 1942, in Sumter, son of the late William Thomas Fort and Mary N. McClam Fort Whisnant; and

Whereas, he was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and a dedicated volunteer at the Jubilee Samaritan Shelter; and

Whereas, Mr. Fort served on the boards of the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, the Sunset Country Club, and the Palmetto Rotary Club; and

Whereas, he was honored in 1999 for his ten years of exemplary leadership of and service to the Sumter-Shaw Community Council; and

Whereas, he was professionally associated with Fort Roofing and Sheet Metal Works; and

Whereas, he is survived by a large and loving family, including his widow, Zan Ellis Chappell Fort, and four daughters, Laura Chappell Bauknight, Cile Chappell Wildrick, Molly Chappell-McPhail, and Michele Wilm. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives express their sorrow at the untimely death of Lewis Heyward Fort of Sumter on May 14, 2001, and extend their sincere sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Zan Ellis Chappell Fort.
