A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. THELMA FRAZIER RIVERS OF THE TOWN OF TIMMONSVILLE AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Mrs. Thelma Frazier Rivers was born in Darlington County on November 3, 1885, the daughter of Dirk and Ella Frazier, two former slaves, and she died on May 6, 2001, having lived more than 115 years; and
Whereas, she was married to the late Horace Rivers and together they were the parents of sixteen children; and
Whereas, Mrs. Rivers attended the public schools of Darlington County and was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church; and
Whereas, prior to her death she was proclaimed the oldest living resident of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mrs. Rivers attributed her longevity to clean living, her religion, and hard work; and
Whereas, she leaves to mourn her death four daughters, three sons, nearly one hundred grandchildren and great grandchildren; and
Whereas, it is proper for the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina to pause in their deliberations to express their sorrow to Mrs. Thelma Frazier Rivers' family and many friends on this occasion. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Thelma Frazier Rivers of the Town of Timmonsville and extend deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Martha Frazier.
