 FOR HIS ENTHUSIASM IN BETTERING THE LIVES OF SUMTER COUNTY RESIDENTS AND HIS
 DEDICATION TO THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE,
 AND TO HONOR HIM FOR BEING NAMED ITS 2001 HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE MR. JOHNNY PRINGLE, JR. OF SUMTER COUNTY FOR HIS ENTHUSIASM IN BETTERING THE LIVES OF SUMTER COUNTY RESIDENTS AND HIS DEDICATION TO THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE, AND TO HONOR HIM FOR BEING NAMED ITS 2001 HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina commend Mr. Johnny Pringle, Jr. and congratulate him for being named the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People 2001 Humanitarian of the Year; and

Whereas, he was born and educated in Sumter. He joined the United States Air Force and served for twenty years before returning to Sumter County; and

Whereas, Mr. Pringle was involved in developing and fundraising for the South Sumter Resource Center, a facility that provides educational, social, and cultural services to disadvantaged South Sumter residents. He has also worked with the South Sumter Revitalization Association to clean up the neighborhood and obtain more police protection to rid the area of crime; and

Whereas, he recently was appointed to the Sumter/Richland Empowerment Zone Commission, where he has acquired funding for improvements in housing, policing, education, and recreation in South Sumter; and

Whereas, in his printing business, Mr. Pringle employs Black young people and shares with them his knowledge and skills to help prepare them for their future. He has donated his printing services to many churches, businesses, and civic and political organizations to assist in their charities and functions; and

Whereas, Mr. Pringle is a mentor with the Alpha Phi Alpha Head Start Fatherhood Initiative and was awarded the Lester T. Corley Children and Families Champion Award. He is committed to making Sumter County a place that supports, respects, and promotes the cultural diversity of all its people; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to acknowledge Mr. Johnny Pringle, Jr. for his abundant and varied contributions as a mentor, philanthropist, entrepreneur, political advocate, and social activist, and for his being named the NAACP 2001 Humanitarian of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Mr. Johnny Pringle, Jr. of Sumter County for his enthusiasm in bettering the lives of Sumter residents and his dedication to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and honor him for being named its 2001 Humanitarian of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Johnny Pringle, Jr. of Sumter County.
