A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RATIFY AND CONFIRM THE ACTION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IN NAMING THE HIGHWAY 118 BYPASS IN THE NORTHEAST SECTION OF AIKEN COUNTY AS THE RUDY MASON PARKWAY.

Whereas, Rudolph M. "Rudy" Mason was born March 21, 1933, in Henderson, North Carolina; and

Whereas, he graduated from Lynchburg College, where he had been elected president of the student body on the same day in 1956 that he married Lu Graves; and

Whereas, he served as President of the Aiken Sertoma Club, was a charter member of Houndslake Country Club, and was a member of the Houndslake Golf Association; and

Whereas, he served as Chairman of the City of Aiken Planning Commission; and

Whereas, he represented State Farm Insurance Company for thirty-one years and was a member of the National Life Underwriters Association; and

Whereas, in 1994, he was elected to represent House District 81 in the South Carolina House of Representatives and served on the Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee; and

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Mason have three sons, a daughter, and ten grandchildren; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are informed that the Department of Transportation has named the Highway 118 Bypass in the northeast section of Aiken County as the Rudy Mason Parkway in honor of this distinguished South Carolinian; and

Whereas, the General Assembly, by this resolution, hereby ratifies and confirms this action of the Department of Transportation and expresses its strong support for recognizing Mr. Mason in this manner. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly ratify and confirm the action of the Department of Transportation in naming the Highway 118 Bypass in the northeast section of Aiken County as the Rudy Mason Parkway.
