 MOST RESPECTED BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS, WHO PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY, MARCH
 13, 2002, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LOVING FAMILY AND MANY
 FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF FREDERICK EARLE BROGDON, ONE OF SUMTER'S MOST RESPECTED BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS, WHO PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13, 2002, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LOVING FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened by the death of Frederick Earle Brogdon on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at the age of seventy-eight; and

Whereas, Frederick Earle Brogdon was born in Sumter on January 12, 1924, to James Malachi Brogdon and Mary Mellette Brogdon; and

Whereas, Mr. Brogdon attended Edmunds High School and The Citadel, but was called to the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, where he served as a navigator in the Eighth Air Force; and

Whereas, upon returning from duty, Mr. Brogdon attended the University of South Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in accounting and served as student body president; and

Whereas, Frederick E. Brogdon became a certified public accountant and was President of Sumter Machinery Company; and

Whereas, Mr. Brogdon was a faithful Christian, committed to serving the Presbyterian Church USA on all levels during his life. He was moderator of Harmony Presbytery and the Synod of the Southeast; served on the Synod Council, General Assembly Mission Board, Mountain Retreat Association Board, South Carolina Home Board at Montreat; and was treasurer of Harmony Presbytery for twenty-seven years; and

Whereas, he was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, clerk of the session, and elder emeritus; and

Whereas, Mr. Brogdon was also very involved in his community where he was active in the Kiwanis Club, YMCA, the Sumter Industrial Association, the Housing Authority, Salvation Army, Chamber of Commerce, and the John K. Crosswell Home for Children; and

Whereas, the General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family and many friends of Frederick E. Brogdon. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth DuBose Brogdon; two sons, Dr. Frederick Earle Brogdon, Jr., and his wife, Laura, and Edward DuBose Brogdon, and his wife, Vivian; and four grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth, Frederick Earle III, Katherine Stewart, and Edward DuBose, Jr. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their sincere sorrow upon the death of Frederick Earle Brogdon, one of Sumter's most respected business and civic leaders who passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2002, and extend deepest sympathy to his loving family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Frederick Earle Brogdon of Sumter.
