A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS DEEPEST SYMPATHIES TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF THE LATE HASKELL FRIERSON, SR., OF CLARENDON COUNTY, UPON HIS PASSING.

Whereas, Mr. Haskell Frierson, Sr., of Clarendon County, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2002, at the Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Haskell Frierson was born on June 13, 1916, the son of the late Joseph Frierson and Mary Ida Tomlin Frierson; he received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County; and

Whereas, in his youth, Haskell Frierson became a member of Mount Moriah U.M.E. Church in the Westminister Community, where he remained a faithful and devoted member for many years and served his fellow worshipers as a steward of the church; he was also a member of Red Hill Masonic Lodge #144, YMCA, and Joint Stock Lodges; and

Whereas, Mr. Frierson was a man of strong conviction and principal; in his years on this Earth he acquired great wisdom, always provided well for his family, and gave generously to his church; he retired from his job as a welder for Georgia Pacific Saw Mill Division in Alcolu, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Haskell Frierson was married to the late Lula Hilton Frierson and their union was blessed with eight children, with two sons having preceded Mr. Frierson in death; and

Whereas, those family members surviving Mr. Frierson include his three loving daughters, Mary Alice, Cynthia, and Joyce, his four devoted sons, Haskell, Jr., Charles, the Reverend W. J., and Corde, his sisters-in-law, Aletha Everette and Jessica Cribbs, his eighteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and

Whereas, it is fitting that the members of the General Assembly pause to reflect on the life of this son of the Palmetto State, who remained throughout his many years a hard worker, a loving and supporting husband and father, and a dutiful servant of God. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their deepest sympathies to the family and many friends of the late Haskell Frierson, Sr., of Clarendon County, upon his passing.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Haskell Frierson's son, the Honorable W. J. Frierson, a member of the Clarendon County Council.
