 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE
 OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF DR. DAVIS DELEON MOISE,
 ONE OF SUMTER'S MOST RESPECTED SURGEONS AND CIVIC LEADERS, UPON HIS DEATH.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF DR. DAVIS DELEON MOISE, ONE OF SUMTER'S MOST RESPECTED SURGEONS AND CIVIC LEADERS, UPON HIS DEATH.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of Dr. Davis DeLeon Moise of Sumter; and

Whereas, Dr. Moise practiced general surgery at Tuomey Hospital for thirty-three years, during which time he organized the Cancer Clinic and the first class of emergency medical technicians. He also served as chief of the medical staff and was instrumental in founding and maintaining the Tuomey Medical Library, which is named for him; and

Whereas, less than a year after he retired, Dr. Moise went back to work with the Santee-Wateree Mental Health Center, until he retired again in 1998; and

Whereas, Dr. Moise was born in Sumter, educated at the University of Maryland and Duke University where he earned his doctorate in 1942. He was a decorated soldier with the United States Army Engineer Corps, serving as a battalion surgeon and earning the Philippine liberation ribbon with Bronze Star; and

Whereas, Davis Moise was a very active community and civic leader in Sumter through his work with the Boy Scouts, Sumter County Red Cross, area mental health centers, Temple Sinai, and many other groups and organizations to which he devoted his time and energy; and

Whereas, he was also a warm and personable man with many varied interests, including gardening, sailing, camping, racket ball, and activities at the YMCA; and

Whereas, above all he loved and cared deeply for his wife, three sons, other members of his family, and his large and wonderful group of friends; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to extend their sincere condolences to the entire Moise family, upon his death at the age of eighty-five. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Dr. Davis DeLeon Moise, one of Sumter's most respected surgeons and civic leaders, upon his death.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Emily Moise.
