A HOUSE RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO MRS. BEVERLY LAVERNE DOZIER
CLYBURN OF AIKEN COUNTY FOR HER MORE THAN THIRTY-SEVEN YEARS OF FAITHFUL
SERVICE AS A DEDICATED EDUCATOR AND LIFELONG HUMANITARIAN ON THE OCCASION OF
HER RETIREMENT AND WISHING HER GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS FOR MANY YEARS TO
 COME.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO MRS. BEVERLY LAVERNE DOZIER CLYBURN OF AIKEN COUNTY FOR HER MORE THAN THIRTY-SEVEN YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE AS A DEDICATED EDUCATOR AND LIFELONG HUMANITARIAN ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AND WISHING HER GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives note with pride the dedication and commitment of Mrs. Beverly LaVerne Dozier Clyburn is a reflection of her ability to educate and to shape and form the lives of her young charges in a positive way; it is a reflection of her commitment to, and faith in, public education in the Palmetto State; it is a reflection of her hard work, vision, and leadership; but, also, it is a reflection upon the school districts and communities where she has taught and counselled - of a people united, both in belief and in practice, in the goal of bringing up our children the right way - with solid education and lasting values; and

Whereas, the former Beverly LaVerne Dozier is a native of Georgetown, South Carolina, and was born to Maggie and the late William Dozier, the fifth of eight children and the fourth of seven girls; and

Whereas, she was the 1961 Salutatorian of Howard High School and graduated with honors from Allen University in 1965, with a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics; and

Whereas, in January of 1964, she secretly married William Clyburn of Camden, South Carolina. They have been blessed with two sons, William, Jr., and Wilson Anthony; a daughter, Courtney LaVerne; one daughter-in-law, Dionne, and a granddaughter, Kristin; and

Whereas, in 1978, Beverly Clyburn earned a Masters Degree in Secondary Guidance from the University of South Carolina. Shortly thereafter, she was hired as a Guidance Counselor at the new Midland Valley High School and ten years later, was promoted to Guidance Director at South Aiken High School, a position she held for eleven years. After completing thirty-four years of public service in the Aiken County school system, Beverly retired; and

Whereas, shortly after retiring, Beverly Clyburn was presented with a new challenge when the State took control of the Allendale County Schools. For three years she traveled daily from Aiken to Allendale and in her words, she is "Taking her show off the road"; and

Whereas, Beverly Clyburn believes, "Reputation is what men say about you in newspapers and in testimonies; character is what angels say about you before the throne of God. We should all be about building character." Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their appreciation to Mrs. Beverly LaVerne Dozier Clyburn of Aiken County for more than thirty-seven years of faithful service as a dedicated educator and lifelong humanitarian on the occasion of her retirement and wish her good health and happiness for many years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Beverly LaVerne Dozier Clyburn.
