H. 3406

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF STEPHEN TUCKER BELANGIA, JR., OF MANNING AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened to receive the news of the sudden and untimely death of Stephen Tucker Belangia, Jr., on Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at only sixteen years of age; and

Whereas, Tucker was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina on September 5, 1985, and was the beloved son of Stephen Tucker Belangia, Sr., and Terri Moody Belangia; and

Whereas, Tucker was a rising junior at Clarendon County's Laurence Manning Academy, where he played on the football team and excelled in baseball, earning All-Area, All-Conference, and All-State honors; and

Whereas, Tucker's athletic abilities contributed significantly to Laurence Manning Academy winning the 2002 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Division AAA State Championship in baseball; and

Whereas, this championship is especially poignant for both Laurence Manning Academy and the Belangia family, because Tucker's father, Stephen T. Belangia, Sr., is the team's head coach; and

Whereas, Tucker will always be remembered by his family, friends, and teammates not only for his athletic accomplishments, but also for his kind disposition and vibrant spirit; and

Whereas, in addition to his loving parents, Tucker is survived by his sister, Jessica Belangia of Manning; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Elizabeth Stevens of Orangeburg; his paternal grandmother, Isabelle Belangia of Midland, North Carolina; and his maternal great-grandfather, Herbert Courtney of Orangeburg; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper that the members of the House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to honor the memory of one of South Carolina's most promising native sons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the untimely death of Stephen Tucker Belangia, Jr., and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be delivered to Mr. and Mrs. Stephen T. Belangia, Sr.
