Whereas, with great pride and admiration, the members of the House of Representatives recognize the long and happy union of two very special people, Mr. and Mrs. Holland E. Walker, who celebrate their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary on April 5, 1999; and

Whereas, Holland E. Walker, son of Robert K. and Mary D. Walker, was bornNext on May 26, 1910, and Irene N. Walker, the daughter of Charles E. and Harriet T. Carruth, was Previousborn on April 5, 1914; and

Whereas, after their marriage on April 5, 1941, they have lived in Landrum, South Carolina all of their adult lives; and

Whereas, Holland Walker was a farmer and a carpenter until his retirement, and Irene Walker was a textile worker in Landrum until her retirement; and

Whereas, like many young men of his era, Holland Walker served his country and developed his strong character by being a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1935-1937; and

Whereas, this couple proudly raised three sons whose names are Robert E., Donald C., and Sidney H. Walker and all three sons continued their education by attending college with two going to the University of South Carolina and one to Clemson; and

Whereas, their pride in and their feelings of being blessed by a loving family extend to four grandchildren and, now, two great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, the Walker's strong Christian values and high moral standards have always been wonderful examples to their sons, their sons' families, and all of their many friends and acquaintances over the years; and

Whereas, the Walkers are well known in their community for numerous reasons. They are very active in the senior citizen groups in their church and the community. Every year Mr. Walker grows wonderfully healthy vegetables in his garden and people remark on the tastiness of his collards far beyond the Landrum community; and

Whereas, Mrs. Walker's cooking and the foods she prepares for all occasions rival her husband's garden in being well known and respected in the community; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives recognizes this couple, the parents of Representative Bob Walker, and the strength of their union as a true example of commitment, devotion, faith, and endurance. Now, therefore,
