A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE LINDA H. SHORT, OF CHESTER COUNTY, FOR HER SIXTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT IN SERVING AS A MEMBER OF THE SENATE, AND TO WISH HER SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the Honorable Linda H. Short, of Chester County, has represented the citizens of Senate District 17 for sixteen years with industry and excellence; and

Whereas, born on July 9, 1947, the daughter of the late Violet K. and the late Everett R. Huffstetler, Linda Short married her beloved husband Paul E. Short on June 14, 1968, and they have raised two fine daughters, Lindy Short Blanks and Melanie Short Edwards; and

Whereas, in 1984, Linda Short earned a Bachelor of Arts from Winthrop University, and she served on the Chester County School Board from 1982 to 1992, as its chairman from 1990 to 1992, and on the Presbyterian College Board of Visitors from 1990 to 1993; and

Whereas, in this body, Senator Short served on the Education, Finance, General, Medical Affairs, and Transportation Committees; and

Whereas, among her numerous awards and citations for exceptional work in the Senate, she was named Outstanding Legislator by the Public Health Association in 1999, the 2003 A+ Legislator by the South Carolina Educators Association, the 2003 Affordable Housing Coalition of South Carolina Legislator of the Year, and the 2003 Social Work Legislator of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers, and she received an honorary doctorate in public administration from The Citadel in 2007; and

Whereas, Senator Short has further served her community as the chairman of the Purity Presbyterian Church Board of Deacons, as a junior and senior high Sunday school teacher, and as the vice president of the Providence Presbytery Presbyterian Women; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate will miss the keen insight and faithful service that Linda H. Short has provided to the Senate, and hope that she experiences fulfillment in all her undertakings. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, commend the Honorable Linda H. Short, of Chester County, for her sixteen years of dedication and commitment in serving as a member of the Senate, and wish her success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Linda H. Short.
