MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE ANNIE RUTH BURROUGHS ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are delighted to learn that Annie Ruth Burroughs will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on May 30, 2018; and
Whereas, Annie Ruth Burroughs was born on May 30, 1918 in Moultrie, Georgia. She was one of ten children born to John Frank and Katie Lee Gay. While in Georgia, she graduated from Moultrie High School; and
Whereas, Mrs. Burroughs worked in citrus fruits most of her working life and lived in Tampa, Florida while she was married to her husband, David. After David passed on, she moved back to Moultrie to be near family. Today, she lives with her only surviving sibling, Jean Holland, and Jean's husband, Don, in the Thornley Forest neighborhood in Moncks Corner; and
Whereas, a true Christian, Mrs. Burroughs has an unshakeable faith in God and a generous spirit. When she could drive, she would take those who couldn't drive themselves to church with her; and
Whereas, she has always respected and loved our country, and whenever she hears our national anthem, she proudly stands, even though it is a difficult task at her age; and
Whereas, a loving and giving individual, Mrs. Burroughs used to visit the sick and alone in a nursing home in her hometown; and
Whereas, she also has a special love for animals. At one point, she even coaxed a squirrel into her house to get peanuts from the arm of her chair; and
Whereas, a one-of-a-kind woman, Mrs. Burroughs is always grateful, even for the smallest things, and is constantly giving thanks to others; and
Whereas, Mrs. Burroughs is the longest living member of her family, succeeding her grandparents on her mother's side, who reached the ages of ninety-four and ninety-five; and
Whereas, the Senate is proud to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Annie Ruth Burroughs on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Annie Ruth Burroughs.
