A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF DEACON
JAMES DAVID RUTLEDGE OF SENECA UPON HIS DEATH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened
to learn of the death of Deacon James David Rutledge of Seneca on
February 2, 1992; and
Whereas, Deacon Rutledge, the son of the late Morgan and Rosa Lee
Wright Rutledge, was born in Richland, South Carolina, and moved to
Seneca in 1943; and
Whereas, he was a graduate of the Oconee County Training School and
received a bachelor's degree from Benedict College and a master's
degree from North Carolina A & T University; and
Whereas, Deacon Rutledge was a dedicated, well-respected educator for
thirty-four years in the Oconee County school system where he was a
teacher, principal, and Director of Evening Adult Education; and
Whereas, he was a man of God and a devoted and faithful leader of
Ebenezer Baptist Church where he dedicated his time and talents in
many purposeful roles including serving as chairman of the Deacon
Board for thirty-two years; and
Whereas, Deacon Rutledge provided untiring service to his community
in a myriad of professional and civic organizations, far too numerous to
mention them all, but among them are the Tri-County Technical College
Area Commission, Oconee Head Start Program, the Masons, Eastern
Star, Oconee County Teachers Association, United Way, NAACP,
Anderson and Oconee Mental Health Board, and the Anderson and
Oconee Council on Aging; and
Whereas, he received many prestigious awards and commendations from
many civic, church, and professional organizations recognizing his
dedication, commitment, and devoted service to his fellow man and his
community; and
Whereas, Deacon Rutledge was a loving husband, father, and
grandfather and is survived by his wife Mildred, his daughter Jacqueline
Loretta, his son James Dwight, and his grandson Dwight Tremain; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish to express their
sorrow upon the death of Deacon James David Rutledge. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly by this resolution express
their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Deacon James
David Rutledge of Seneca upon his death on February 2, 1992.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs.
James David Rutledge of Seneca, South Carolina.
