A Concurrent Resolution to commend Reverend Roscoe C. Wilson, Sr., Pastor of
Saint John Baptist Church in Columbia, for his forty-four years of unselfish
and dedicated leadership of this outstanding church, and to extend to him best
wishes on the occasion of his seventy-first birthday.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND REVEREND ROSCOE C. WILSON, SR., PASTOR
OF SAINT JOHN BAPTIST CHURCH IN COLUMBIA, FOR HIS
FORTY-FOUR YEARS OF UNSELFISH AND DEDICATED
LEADERSHIP OF THIS OUTSTANDING CHURCH, AND TO
EXTEND TO HIM BEST WISHES ON THE OCCASION OF HIS
SEVENTY-FIRST BIRTHDAY.
Whereas, Reverend Roscoe C. Wilson, Sr., is the pastor of Saint John
Baptist Church in Columbia having been called to this pastorate in
March of 1948; and
Whereas, Saint John Baptist Church is an integral part of the Columbia
community. It has not only manifested itself as a cordial, friendly, and
sacred place of worship, but it has served as an outstanding influence in
evangelizing the surrounding communities in which it operates. It is
concerned with the spiritual, social, political, and economic welfare of
the people, both within and outside of the realm of its own membership;
and
Whereas, Roscoe Wilson was born on March 27, 1921, in Seguin,
Texas, in 1946, he entered Benedict College where he earned the
Bachelor of Arts degree, in 1952 he received the Bachelor of Divinity
degree from J. J. Starks School of Theology at Benedict College, and on
March 27, 1992, celebrated his seventy-first birthday; and
Whereas, under his leadership a new sanctuary has been built and then
subsequently renovated, property purchases of over one million dollars
were made, the annual budget of the church increased tenfold,
membership increased over fivefold and the church operates a preschool
program which has a citywide reputation for excellence; and
Whereas, one key ingredient of Reverend Wilson's success as a pastor
and minister was his lovely wife, the former Ethel Celeste Williams of
Columbia, who was his partner and confidante until her death; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
would like to wish Reverend Wilson a very happy birthday and would
also like to publicly recognize and thank this gifted man of God for his
unselfish and dedicated ministry to this fine church and to the many
members and friends of the congregation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Reverend
Roscoe C. Wilson, Sr., pastor of Saint John Baptist Church in Columbia,
for his forty-four years of unselfish and dedicated leadership of this
outstanding church, and extend to him best wishes on the occasion of his
seventy-first birthday.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Reverend Wilson.
