H*4885 Concurrent Resolution, By K.S. Corbett and Keegan
A Concurrent Resolution expressing the sorrow of the members of the General
Assembly at the death of Mark Garner, former Mayor of Myrtle Beach, and
extending sympathy to his family and many friends.

05/27/92 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-1
A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF MARK GARNER,
FORMER MAYOR OF MYRTLE BEACH, AND EXTENDING
SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Mark Garner, of Horry County and former mayor of Myrtle
Beach, died Sunday, May 17, 1992, at the age of seventy-one; and
Whereas, born Marcellus Craig Garner, the well-known and highly
respected Myrtle Beach leader was instrumental in the development of
the U.S. 17 Bypass and the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, created the
annual Sun Fun Festival, reorganized the Myrtle Beach Chamber of
Commerce, and founded The Sun News; and
Whereas, he is rightly credited with the designation as "the shaper
of modern Myrtle Beach", having changed the once relatively
quiet coastal town into the State's top tourist attraction and a thriving
seaside city with national, as well as international, prominence and name
recognition; and
Whereas, he was a man of vision and many talents who possessed
tremendous energy and drive and had an indomitable spirit; and
Whereas, the Palmetto State has lost in Mark Garner one of its truly
outstanding citizens -- an individual whose accomplishments and
contributions will seldom, if ever, be either equaled or surpassed; and
Whereas, we want his family and his many friends to know that we were
deeply saddened by the news of his death and that they are uppermost
in our thoughts at this time. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, expresses sorrow at the death of Mark Garner, former mayor
of Myrtle Beach, and extends deepest sympathy to his family and many
friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr.
Garner's family.
