General Assembly of the State of South Carolina to the many friends and family
of Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor Simmons, upon her death on Sunday, April 9, 1995, at
the age of one hundred and seven.

RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS
OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH
CAROLINA TO THE MANY FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF MRS.
ELIZABETH TAYLOR SIMMONS, UPON HER DEATH ON
SUNDAY, APRIL 9, 1995, AT THE AGE OF ONE HUNDRED
AND SEVEN.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply
saddened to learn of the death on Sunday, April 9, 1995, of Mrs.
Elizabeth Taylor Simmons, at the age of one hundred and seven;
and
Whereas, Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor Simmons was born January 1,
1888, on Johns Island; and
Whereas, Mrs. Simmons was married to the late Mr. Willie
Simmons and was a woman totally dedicated to their two daughters
Ida Simmons and Lillie Simmons Jenkins, both deceased; and
Whereas, at an early age, Mrs. Simmons joined St. John AME
Church on John's Island and later she joined St. James Bethel AME
Church on Wadmalaw Island serving on the Stewardess Board and
as the leader of Class 13 until her health declined; and
Whereas, Mrs. Simmons was also a member of the Eastern Star,
Ruth Beauty Chapter 106, and as she grew older became an
honorary member of this Chapter; and
Whereas, this individual was known and loved for her patience,
compassion, and kindness to others and never hesitated to help
anyone in need; and
Whereas, she tirelessly contributed her time, talents, and energy to
numerous causes for the betterment of her community, friends, and
church; and
Whereas, Mrs. Simmons was an outstanding woman who was
known, respected, and admired by all who came in contact with
her; and
Whereas, Elizabeth Taylor Simmons exemplified the ultimate in
faith, strength, and an unyielding determination to live and will be
missed very much; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly want her family
and many friends to know that they are uppermost in our thoughts
and have our deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Mrs.
Elizabeth Taylor Simmons and extend their deepest sympathy to her
8 great-grandchildren, 14 great great-grandchildren, and 4 great
great great-grandchildren.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mrs. Simmons' family.
