HIS DEDICATION AND DEVOTION TO THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY IN GREENVILLE COUNTY ON
THE OCCASION OF A CELEBRATION HONORING HIS TWENTY YEARS OF SERVICE IN THE
MINISTRY.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND REVEREND STEPHEN
SAMUEL LOMAX FOR HIS DEDICATION AND DEVOTION TO
THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY IN GREENVILLE COUNTY ON
THE OCCASION OF A CELEBRATION HONORING HIS
TWENTY YEARS OF SERVICE IN THE MINISTRY.
Whereas, a celebration will be held in honor of Reverend Stephen
Samuel Lomax to commemorate his twenty years of service in the
ministry at Rock Hill #1 Baptist Church in Greenville, South
Carolina on Sunday, July 27, 1997 at 5:00 p.m; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax came from humble beginnings to earn his
present position of great respect and honor from citizens and leaders
throughout South Carolina and the nation; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax is married to the former Mrs. Frances
Delores Shaw and they are the proud parents of four outstanding
children; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax graduated from Erskine Theological
Seminary earning two degrees, a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of
Ministry, without financial backing; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax has an extraordinary and unique ability
to inspire and motivate people and is widely known and revered in
the Christian community as a dynamic gospel preacher; and
Whereas, under Reverend Lomax's direction, Rock Hill #1 Baptist
Church underwent more than $125,000 of renovations during the first
few years of his pastorate and within four years the church was again
debt-free; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax's most recent project has been to
establish a children's church under the direction of his wife who is
gifted in the field of teaching young children; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax has licensed or ordained nine young men
into the preaching ministry and is giving guidance to two other
ordained ministers; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax currently has the longest running
religious worship service on the radio in upper South Carolina; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax will be designated in 1998 as President
of the Enoree River Congress of Christian Education and assume
training responsibilities of 34 churches; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax is currently a member of the Executive
Committee of the NAACP, a member of the Greenville and Vicinity
Ministerial Alliance and a member of Christian Education where he
is soon to become president; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax also served as past advisor to the
Concerned Citizens for Equal Justice of Greenville and Vicinity and
as a past special advisor to the Mayor of Simpsonville on Matters of
Civil Rights; and
Whereas, Reverend Lomax has been and continues to be a selfless
provider of vision and guidance to a Christian community that has
allowed many groups and affiliations to work together for a better
South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by
this resolution, hereby recognize and commend Reverend Stephen
Samuel Lomax for his dedication and devotion to the Christian
community in Greenville County, on the occasion of a celebration
honoring his twenty years of service in the ministry.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Reverend Stephen Samuel Lomax.
