A JOINT RESOLUTION
TO CREATE A COMMITTEE TO STUDY AND DETERMINE WHETHER THE SAMWORTH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA SHOULD BE REDESIGNATED AS A CATEGORY 2 WATERFOWL AREA, TO PROVIDE FOR MEMBERSHIP OF THE STUDY COMMITTEE AND METHOD OF APPOINTMENT OF ITS MEMBERS, AND TO REQUIRE THE STUDY COMMITTEE TO PREPARE A REPORT WITH FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. (A) There is created a committee to study and determine whether the Samworth Wildlife Management Area, which is designated as a Category 1 Waterfowl Area, shall be redesignated as a Category 2 Waterfowl Area.
(B) The members of the study committee must be appointed by the members of the Georgetown County Legislative Delegation and be composed of:
(1) the director of the Department of Natural Resources, or his designee;
(2) a scientist who specializes in the field of wildlife management;
(3) a specialist in the field of natural resources;
(4) a person who both owns land in and resides in Georgetown County; and
(5) a Department of Natural Resources law enforcement officer.
(C) The members of the study committee shall serve without compensation.
(D) The study committee shall prepare a report for the General Assembly that sets forth its findings and recommendations relevant to its purpose and provide the report to the General Assembly by December 31, 2017, at which time the study committee is dissolved.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
