 A Concurrent Resolution to express the deepest sympathy of the members of the
 General Assembly to the family and many friends of Sergeant Charles B. Kubala,
 Sr., the Sumter County Deputy Sheriff who was killed in the line of duty on
 February 26, 1996.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF SERGEANT CHARLES B. KUBALA, SR., THE SUMTER COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF WHO WAS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON FEBRUARY 26, 1996.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were shocked and saddened to learn that on the evening of February 26, 1996, Sergeant Charles B. Kubala, Sr., a Sumter County deputy sheriff, was killed in the line of duty while answering a call regarding a prowler; and

Whereas, this fine young law enforcement officer was a 1982 graduate of Sumter High School, a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, and a nine-year veteran of the Sumter County Sheriff's Department; and

Whereas, it is a difficult and hazardous calling to be charged with the responsibility of enforcing the law, and it requires brave men and women of courageNext and dedication to perform this task; and

Whereas, Charlie Kubala was such a person, and his Previouscourage, devotion to duty, and love for his chosen profession will be a continued source of inspiration for law enforcement officers throughout South Carolina; and

Whereas, he not only was an excellent officer but was also a dedicated husband and father who gave of himself to his community, church, and family, including a leadership role with the Boy Scouts of America and;

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, other members of his family, and many friends upon the tragic and untimely death of this truly outstanding South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Sergeant Charles B. Kubala, Sr., the Sumter County deputy sheriff who was killed in the line of duty on February 26, 1996.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Teresa Barrett Kubala.
