A SENATE RESOLUTION

COMMENDING SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS OFFICER ROOSEVELT FIELDS FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE AND BRAVERY WHILE PERFORMING HIS DUTIES DURING THE APRIL 17, 1995, DISTURBANCE AT THE BROAD RIVER CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION IN RICHLAND COUNTY.

Whereas, South Carolina Department of Corrections Officer Roosevelt Fields, responding to the April 17, 1995, disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution, courageously defended a fellow officer who was severely injured from an attack by armed inmates; and

Whereas, Officer Fields, sacrificing his personal safety to protect a fellow officer from further attack, also was wounded by armed inmates. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate commend South Carolina Department of Corrections Officer Roosevelt Fields for exceptional service and bravery while performing his duties during the April 17, 1995, disturbance at the Broad River Correctional Institution in Richland County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Officer Roosevelt Fields.
