A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SORROW OF THE MEMBERS
OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF RYAN
CROUT, EIGHT-YEARS-OLD OF GILBERT, AND EXTENDING
DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY
FRIENDS.
Whereas, Ryan Crout of Gilbert, Lexington County, succumbed on
Wednesday, February 28, 1996, at the age of eight to brain cancer
which he had bravely battled for a long time; and
Whereas, Ryan was a student at Gilbert Elementary School where
he was a model student; he was a courageous young man who
fought a valiant fight against his illness and was a true hero to
countless persons; and
Whereas, he captured the community's support, admiration, and
love; the "Run for Ryan Marathon" race was run on
February 17, 1996, with sixty-five persons participating, and raised
more than $90,000; the money was being raised to offset the costs
of a two-year, $100,000 experimental cancer treatment program in
Houston, Texas, that Ryan had already begun; Ryan's family plans
to donate the funds to various worthy causes; and
Whereas, Ryan was an outstanding child whose life should be
celebrated with joy and thanksgiving; while he will be greatly
missed, he will serve as an inspiration and role model for many
others who face their own personal battles of one kind or another;
and
Whereas, we want Ryan's family to know that they are uppermost
in our thoughts and have our deepest sympathy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, express deepest sorrow at the death of
Ryan Crout, eight-years-old of Gilbert, and extend deepest
sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Ryan's family and to Mr. Jack Fudger, principal of Gilbert
Elementary School.
