A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF AND THE BLIND GIRLS 1600 METER RELAY TEAM WHO RECENTLY COMPETED IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Whereas, the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind Girls 1600 Meter Relay Team recently competed at the Track and Field State Championship in Divisions IA and IIA; and

Whereas, the exceptional group of young athletes included Sonya Bell, Shelia Jones, Jessica Smith, and Tiffany Wallace; and

Whereas, for the first time in United States history, Sonya Bell, who is totally blind, participated in a state track and field championship; and

Whereas, the courageous group of young women should be commended for overcoming their physical handicaps and competing in a state championship which should set an example for all of us to strive to achieve; and

Whereas, the team's coaches, Jack Todd and Bill Ramborger, are to be applauded for their fine coaching for helping these runners to achieve their goals. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
