A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE HARD WORK AND CONTRIBUTIONS MADE TO THE LIONS INTERNATIONAL TRADING PIN CLUB BY ED AND DOROTHY FOGELMAN OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, TO WISH THIS COUPLE GODSPEED AS THEY BOTH RETIRE FROM THE GOVERNING BOARD OF THE CLUB, AND TO FURTHER RECOGNIZE THAT ALL OF THEIR LIVES ED AND DOROTHY FOGELMAN HAVE SERVED THEIR COMMUNITY AND THEIR COUNTRY AND MAINTAINED A STRONG WORK ETHIC AND POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON LIFE.

Whereas, Lions International is a very important philanthropic organization; in fact, Lions International, founded in 1917, is the world's largest service organization with members in all countries. The motto of this exemplar group is "We Serve" and the main focus of their humanitarian efforts is aid to sight and visually impaired individuals; and

Whereas, an essential part of this organization is the Lions International Trading Pin Club; it has a membership of almost one thousand Lions members who, by trading pins, express their friendship and loyalty to one another and to the credo of Lions International. The immediate past president of the Lions International Trading Pin Club is Representative Bob Walker of House District 38; two important members of the club with whom Representative Walker has been associated in very positive ways are Ed and Dorothy Fogelman of Tieton, Washington; and

Whereas, Ed and Dorothy Fogelman have been loyal, hardworking members of the Lions International Trading Pin Club; Dorothy has been involved in almost every aspect of the club's administration for many years and currently serves as the Membership Chairman on its Board of Directors, and Ed has been on the Board of Directors for the LPITC as its Secretary or its Treasurer since the inception of the club over twenty-five years ago; he is the only person in the club to hold that honor; and

Whereas, this couple, who have been happily married for thirty-eight years, are active and very generous about giving their time to worthwhile causes; they are both involved with the Tieton, Washington Food Bank and they operated their own apple orchard for almost thirty-five years; and

Whereas, Ed Fogelman served his country with valor and courage; he entered the United States Navy on June 2, 1929, and served for thirty-one years. By the time of his retirement he had been promoted from enlisted person to full commander. During his service in World War II, Ed Fogelman survived in shark infested waters in the Pacific for more than thirty-six hours; several of his comrades did not survive this ordeal; and

Whereas, Mr. Fogelman has served his community in several law enforcement positions; he was a marshal of Tieton for six years, a deputy sheriff for seven years, and Chief of Police for seven years; furthermore, he is a licensed pilot who owns his own airplane; and

Whereas, it is very appropriate that, on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the Lions International Trading Pin Club, the two people who helped make this club the success that it has become, Ed and Dorothy Fogelman, should be thanked for all of their contributions. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives,

That the members of the House of Representatives recognize the hard work and contributions made to the Lions International Trading Pin Club by Ed and Dorothy Fogelman of the State of Washington, wish this couple godspeed as they both retire from the governing board of the club, and further recognize that all of their lives Ed and Dorothy Fogelman have served their community and their country and maintained a strong work ethic and positive outlook on life.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ed and Dorothy Fogelman.
