A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE RALPH FERRELL COTHRAN, SR., OF MANNING ON MONDAY, JULY 29, 2002, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of the Honorable Ralph Ferrell Cothran, Sr., of Manning on Monday, July 29, 2002, at the age of eighty; and

Whereas, Judge Cothran was born in Manning on December 12, 1921, to Ralph Dillard Cothran and Mamie Ferrell Cothran; and

Whereas, Judge Cothran courageously served in the United States Air Force during World War II; and

Whereas, a great advocate of the law throughout his life, Judge Cothran practiced law in Manning from 1949 until he assumed the office of Probate Judge for Clarendon County in 1995; and

Whereas, Judge Cothran diligently served Clarendon County as Probate Judge before becoming Master-in-Equity for Clarendon County in 1997, where he served until the time of his death; and

Whereas, Judge Cothran was active in his community and attended the Presbyterian Church of Manning; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly extend their sympathy to the surviving family and friends of Judge Ralph Ferrell Cothran, Sr., including his son, Ralph Ferrell Cothran, Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Debbie; his daughter, Debbie Joseph; his sister, Frances Cothran Brock; and four grandchildren, Scott Ferrell Cothran, Michael Bailey Cothran, Marion Epps DuBose IV, and Malloree Davidson Cothran. Judge Cothran was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth DuBose Cothran and his sister, Ruth Cothran Griffin. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina express their profound sorrow upon the death of the Honorable Ralph Ferrell Cothran, Sr., of Manning on Monday, July 29, 2002, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of the Honorable Ralph Ferrell Cothran, Sr.
