VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

H. 4034

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS PRIVATE NOLEN RYAN HUTCHINGS, OF BOILING SPRINGS IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY, WHO LOST HIS LIFE IN THE SERVICE OF HIS COUNTRY IN IRAQ ON MARCH 23, 2003.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn that United States Marine Corps Private Nolen Ryan Hutchings, of Boiling Springs in Spartanburg County, lost his life on March 23, 2003, in the service of his country in An Nasiriyah, Iraq; and

Whereas, Private Hutchings, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditioning Brigade based at Camp LeJeune, was a 2000 graduate of Boiling Springs High School, and a member of Northbrook Baptist Church of Boiling Springs, who was proud to be an American and especially proud to be a Marine; and

Whereas, his family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances, since the sad news, have shared with each other stories of this young man's kindnesses, his faith, and his passion for serving the nation, and have noted the mark that he made on his community in his short life; and

Whereas, Private Hutchings' sacrifice is a grim reminder of the human cost of the wars fought by our country but is also continuing evidence that when duty calls, there are young men and women who are representative of the best among us who are willing and able to answer the call; and

Whereas, Private Hutchings exemplifies the courage and sacrifice of generations of young Americans who have served their country so ably and so faithfully; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, at this solemn moment, recall with comfort the words of the old prayer, "Heavenly Father, in whose hands are the living and the dead; we give Thee thanks for all those Thy servants who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Grant to them Thy mercy and the light of Thy presence, that the good work which Thou has begun in them may be perfected...;" and

Whereas, it is appropriate the for members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations so that they may honor the memory of this South Carolinian who has made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and to express to his parents, Larry and Carolyn Hutchings, their shared sympathy for them in this terrible loss and their shared pride in his valor and patriotism. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That by this resolution, the members of the House of Representatives extend their sympathy to the family and many friends of United States Marine Corps Private Nolen Ryan Hutchings, of Boiling Springs in Spartanburg County, who lost his life in the service of his country in An Nasiriyah, Iraq on March 23, 2003.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the parents of Private Hutchings, Larry and Carolyn Hutchings.
