A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO MR. THOMAS JACOB FOSTER, FIRST BATTALION, DELTA COMPANY, CLASS OF 2005 AT THE CITADEL, FOR HIS VALIANT EFFORTS IN SAVING THE LIFE OF A FELLOW SOUTH CAROLINIAN AND UPON HIS BEING PROMOTED TO MASTER SERGEANT FOR THE NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR.

Whereas, since the school's inception, cadets of The Citadel have received the utmost respect from citizens in South Carolina and across the country because of the discipline and diligence that is required to be a member of this most prestigious group; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to be able to recognize young adults from this State who excel in academics and leadership at The Citadel; and

Whereas, Mr. Thomas Jacob Foster, First Battalion, Delta Company, Class of 2005 at The Citadel, currently guides other cadets as the Delta Company Clerk and as a Sergeant First Class, ensuring that the others in his company are alert and prepared for any challenge; and

Whereas, in the past year, he has courageously met every test, and in particular he demonstrated his loyalty and bravery when a fellow South Carolinian was injured and he rendered assistance, clearing the cadet's airway and calling for the duty officer to contact EMS; and

Whereas, because of his dedication to his battalion and to The Citadel, Mr. Foster was promoted to Master Sergeant for the next academic year, and in this position he will be required to discipline all the cadets in his company for any wrongdoings; and

Whereas, recently, he was also named to the Commandant's List. This award, given to one cadet in each company and each class, is based on the cadet's grade point average, military bearing, and contributions made to the Corp of Cadets in the past year; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives wish Mr. Foster much success in his remaining years at The Citadel and in all of his future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to Mr. Thomas Jacob Foster, First Battalion, Delta Company, Class of 2005 at The Citadel, for his valiant efforts in saving the life of a fellow South Carolinian and upon his being promoted to Master Sergeant for the next academic year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Thomas Jacob Foster, First Battalion, Delta Company, Class of 2005 at The Citadel, and to his parents, Tommy and Lynn Foster of Spartanburg County.
