A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND BRITT REAMES OF SENECA, FOR HIS HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION THAT HAVE LED TO A SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL, CONGRATULATE HIM ON HAVING HIS JERSEY RETIRED BY SENECA HIGH SCHOOL, AND WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENT IN HIS CHOSEN FIELD.

Whereas, Britt Reames is entering his third season as a major league pitcher and to celebrate his accomplishments, Seneca High School, his alma mater, will retire the Number 10 jersey he wore as a "Bobcat"; and

Whereas, by retiring Britt's jersey and hanging it on the outfield fence alongside legendary coach W. C. McNeill's jersey, Seneca is honoring Britt in a way that all athletes cherish but only a select few enjoy; and

Whereas, Britt honed his pitching skills while playing for the "Bobcats" of Seneca High School, and after graduating in 1992, went on to pitch for The Citadel where he earned an All-Southern Conference honors in 1994 and 1995; and

Whereas, Britt was taken in the annual major league baseball draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and quickly became a success; and with thousands cheering him on, he delivered as the winning pitcher against the Atlanta Braves in the deciding game of the 2000 National League Division Series; and

Whereas, Britt continued his success when he allowed only one earned run in 6 1/3 innings against the New York Mets in the 2000 National League Championship Series; and

Whereas, Britt now plays for the Montreal Expos, and is looking forward to reporting to Jupiter, Florida, with the team on Sunday, February 12, to begin spring training and another season of outstanding play; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that one of the Palmetto State's own has achieved great success in the extremely competitive field of professional baseball and agree it only fitting that his Seneca High School jersey be retired to honor his accomplishment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Britt Reames of Seneca, for the hard work and determination that have led him to a successful career in professional baseball, congratulate him on having his jersey retired by Seneca High School, and wish for him continued success and achievement in his chosen field.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Britt Reames of Seneca.
