A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF PICKENS
AND ITS CONGREGATION ON THE OBSERVANCE AND
CELEBRATION OF ITS CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY.
Whereas, First Baptist Church, located in Pickens, was first organized
as a congregation on May 16, 1891 where twenty-nine people gathered
at the Pickens Presbyterian Church; and
Whereas, as a result of that meeting, First Baptist Church of Pickens was
constituted and organized; and
Whereas, this upstate church has provided the State of South Carolina
with many accomplished and able clergy during its one-hundred-year
history with seventeen pastors having faithfully served the congregation
which now numbers nine hundred eighteen resident members; and
Whereas, First Baptist Church of Pickens has been and continues to be
an important influence and leader for the spiritual and moral well-being
of the upstate and the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, the members of First Baptist Church of Pickens and indeed the
Pickens community will celebrate the centennial anniversary of the
church on Sunday, May 12, 1991, and Sunday, May 19, 1991. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate First Baptist
Church of Pickens and its congregation on the observance and
celebration of its centennial anniversary.
