A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE KIDS
COUNT PROJECT TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF OUR STATE'S
CHILDREN THROUGH ENHANCED INFORMATION AND DATA
GATHERING AND PROBLEM ANALYSIS AND POLICY
DEVELOPMENT AND RECOGNIZE THE PROFESSIONALS WHO
CAUSED THE KIDS COUNT PROJECT TO REALIZE ITS GOALS
AND ACHIEVEMENTS.
Whereas, South Carolina's children are our most important resource
and the majority of children in South Carolina are healthy and
successful because they grow up in loving and supportive families; and
Whereas, too many of South Carolina's children are faced with health,
social, educational, and emotional problems that cause them to be at
risk; and
Whereas, the Annie E. Casey Foundation awarded a grant to the State
Budget and Control Board to disseminate state and county statistics on
the conditions of children; and
Whereas, South Carolina KIDS COUNT overall strategy to improve
the status of children was through problem analysis, data development,
policy development, community coalition-building, and public
information; and
Whereas, "South Carolina's Children", a report on the
status of children in South Carolina, was compiled through the efforts
of South Carolina KIDS COUNT, State Budget and Control Board;
the Joint Legislative Committee on Children and Families; and other
KIDS COUNT steering committee members: Office of the Governor;
the Children's Trust Fund of South Carolina; the Department of
Corrections; and the Alliance for South Carolina's Children; and
Whereas, with the efforts of citizens, state government, schools,
businesses, churches, nonprofit agencies, and youth-serving
organizations working together, improvements can be made in the
lives of children; and
Whereas, the State of South Carolina is committed to making
children's issues a top priority; and
Whereas, South Carolina KIDS COUNT has accomplished the goals
set out by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, hereby acknowledge the contributions of
the KIDS COUNT project to improve the lives of our state's children
through enhanced information and data gathering and problem analysis
and policy development and recognize the professionals who caused
the KIDS COUNT project to realize its goals and achievements.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be published in the
next issue of the State Register.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
South Carolina KIDS COUNT, State Budget and Control Board; Joint
Legislative Committee on Children and Families; Office of the
