A House Resolution to recognize the Joseph Gardner family, early inhabitants
of Warsaw Island, for their many contributions to the island and to carrying
on the traditions of island living and for their many personal, educational,
and professional accomplishments and to wish them well as they gather for the
Gardner Family Reunion the weekend of May 27, 1994.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE THE JOSEPH GARDNER FAMILY, EARLY
INHABITANTS OF WARSAW ISLAND, FOR THEIR MANY
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ISLAND AND TO CARRYING ON THE
TRADITIONS OF ISLAND LIVING AND FOR THEIR MANY
PERSONAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND PROFESSIONAL
ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND TO WISH THEM WELL AS THEY
GATHER FOR THE GARDNER FAMILY REUNION THE
WEEKEND OF MAY 27, 1994.
Whereas, the Gardner family of Warsaw Island, South Carolina, has
long been an institution on this barrier island having lived there since the
mid 1800's; and
Whereas, Joseph Gardner was among the thousands of slaves who came
to the sea islands from Africa in the 1800's; and
Whereas, after the Civil War, Joseph Gardner became an owner of
Warsaw Island, the land on which he had been a slave; and
Whereas, Joseph had nine children and his oldest son, William, had
twenty-three children, from these beginnings the Gardner family has
grown by leaps and bounds and live and are raising families in many
parts of the country; and
Whereas, many descendants of Joseph Gardner are still living on
Warsaw Island, some of whom occupy fourth generation homes,
carrying on the traditions of island living; and
Whereas, the Gardner family has been involved in many civic, church,
and community activities on Warsaw Island and have passed on their
pride in community and civic service to all generations of Gardners; and
Whereas, the Gardner family has a rich family heritage and have much
to be proud of from their past and from their many accomplishments in
education, in the professional and business world, and in community
service; and
Whereas, the Gardner family has strong family ties, a deep devotion to
the family, and an intense loyalty to each other. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, hereby
recognize the Joseph Gardner family, early inhabitants of Warsaw
Island, for their many contributions to the island and to carrying on the
traditions of island living and for their many personal, educational, and
professional accomplishments and wish the Gardner family well as they
gather for their family reunion the weekend of May 27, 1994.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
Gardner family, Warsaw Island.
