A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE R. H. ROLLINGS SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS IN SUMMERVILLE, DORCHESTER SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO, ON BEING NAMED ONE OF FOUR SCHOOLS IN SOUTH CAROLINA TO RECEIVE THE COVETED CAROLINA FIRST PALMETTO'S FINEST AWARD, AND WISHING THEM MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS.

Whereas, four schools in South Carolina were distinguished with the Carolina First Palmetto's Finest, the premier award of excellence for public schools in South Carolina, given by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and

Whereas, on Tuesday, March 13, the fourteen schools that comprised the finalists gathered at the Koger Center in Columbia for the announcement; and

Whereas, R. H. Rollings School for the Arts in Summerville was one of the four schools to take top honors; and

Whereas, the schools progressed through an intensive application process requiring self-evaluation, peer review, and on-site examinations; and

Whereas, the School for the Arts, in Dorchester School District Two, was built in 1924 and was the original high school in Dorchester School District Two. The school currently serves 612 students who audition to earn a place in the school where they work to master their craft in one of six art areas: vocal, music, dance, visual arts, strings, theatre, and piano; and

Whereas, it is through the entire staff's hard work, dedication, and passion for teaching that the School for the Arts received the esteemed award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the R. H. Rollings School for the Arts on receiving the prestigious Carolina First Palmetto's Finest Award, and wish them much continued success.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Kathy Sobolewski, Principal of R. H. Rollings School for the Arts.
