Resolutions HJ-87
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO PROVIDE THAT THE OFFICIAL NICKNAME OF SOUTH
CAROLINA IS "THE MOTOR STATE" AND TO PROVIDE
THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY IS
AUTHORIZED TO USE THIS DESIGNATION ON THE STATE'S
OFFICIAL LICENSE PLATES.
Whereas, the State of South Carolina is the site of the highly sought
BMW manufacturing facility, located in Greenville County; and
Whereas, both Audi and Honda executives have expressed intense
interest in locating manufacturing facilities in the State of South
Carolina; and
Whereas, in the very likely event the State is successful in attracting
both Audi and Honda, South Carolina would then become a major
manufacturer of automobiles, a giant among automobile producing
states, and "The Motor State"; and
Whereas, the State of South Carolina should be proud of that
distinction and display that pride in the appropriate manner; and
Whereas, an appropriate and highly visible way to display that pride
is to adopt the nickname of "The Motor State" and to display that
nickname on its official license plates. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the official nickname for the State of South Carolina is "The
Motor State" and that the Department of Public Safety is authorized
to use the designation "South Carolina: The Motor State" on the
official license plates produced for the State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the Department of Public Safety.
